About Imperial's Offer

Hi friends, some of you might recognise this from my recent LinkedIn post regarding the dilemma of pursuing MSc Climate Change, Management and Finance at Imperial College Business School.

I have until 6th January 2023 to make the final call on this potentially life-changing decision.

Here is a summary of my background:

  • I was born in Malaysia in 1997

  • Went to national primary and secondary schools

  • Completed Engineering Foundation Year at University of Southampton Malaysia

  • Completed MEng Mechanical Engineering / Sustainable Energy Systems in the UK

  • Completed full time summer jobs / placements in construction, sales, tech, research and engineering at startup, SMEs and corporation before graduation

  • Started a climate action platform in Singapore in late 2022

  • My company created a functional website, one web app, two mobile apps and all relevant automations with minimal seed fund

  • I have worked full time ever since company incorporation, and as of today (17th Dec 2023), we are transitioning into revenue mode and have since made our first sales successfully.

Here is my analysis of the offer:

Strengths:

  • Enhanced credibility: Doing a bunisess course in Climate Change and finance at Imperial can add credibility to my technical background in sustainable energy.

  • Business acumen: Provide a structured framework to aid my understanding of business in climate.

  • Location: London is a strategic location for a climate action platform.

Weaknesses:

  • Time: Pursuing a full-time MSc program at Imperial will mean less time to build customer base myself.

  • Energy: My energy and focus are dropping as I approach my late 20s. Past experience of physical and mental traumas tells me to prioritise my overall wellbeing over other things.

Threats:

  • Money: Studying at Imperial College London, the Top 1 university in the UK in 2023, can be an expensive endeavour. This will put my family and myself in tougher financial situations unless I get a big scholarship offer.

Opportunities:

  • Global connections: Being connected with like-minded students and professionals from around the world and potentially form business partnerships.

  • Crucial exposure: Being at the heart of London, my next users, customers and investors could be just around corner, literally.

I will provide an update on my final decision in January 2024. As of now, I will continue to collect feedback on LinkedIn. If you have any feedback, you can contact me through this LinkedIn post.

Thanks! Till next time.
